Stitches!

Last night Violet slipped on the bathroom floor while trying to climb *back* in the tub....

I peer into the bathroom in time to see a wet naked girl slip from the tub's edge down to the linoleum, splitting open the corner of her right eye on the cabinet.

"Ben, there's blood," I said, and handed her over to him. He stopped the bleeding with ice and pressure, ("Mommy, lookit da BLUG!"), and we decided it was gonna be a bad scar if we didn't get stitches. So, at 8 PM, we headed over to the E.R. on post, here....and FOUR HOURS LATER, we were seen by an intern and 2 unpleasant nurses. We decided against a total anesthetic, thinking that if they let us work with her, she'd lie still (especially since it was after midnight). But, one blustery male nurse decided he wanted to do things his way, and he said to Violet, "I'm just gonna give you a big hug!" and he proceeded to hold her down full-bodily, loud-mouthed shushing, and "It's aaall riiiight" right up in her face while the Dr. shot up her eye with anesthetic. She fought FURIOUSLY, and for 2 seemingly endless injections, screamed, "Daddy, pick me up!!!!"

Argh. She kept saying, "H-h-he's not gon' gimmee HUGS!" after that.

We convinced the Dr. that we were calm enough parents to help out with the stitching part. Ben and I held her while she got four stitches above her eye, and though she cried in the beginning, she calmed down in between stitches enough to talk to us and breathe steadily. All in all, she did really well, and was rewarded with a green popsicle at the end of it all. :)

Now, she and Ben have matching scars!

She's very clingy today, and I've cancelled all appointments to stay home and hold her. Poor thing, she keeps touching the threads and squirming, saying, "Mommy, get it OWWT!" I hope she can come to forgive us for all the trauma one day!

Poor Violet! That didn't sound fun for you, either. Hope everything heals up quickly and that you get to enjoy more of that beautiful sun :)

Ya gotta love medical personnel that think they know your kids better than you do! Makes me MAD!!!! I'm so glad the ones we have now are NOT like that!

Bless her heart. Stitches are always traumatic.

She is her father's daughter! I hope she feels better soon.

Poor poppet! (I meant that about Violet but I think I also mean it about you as well...)My sister fell in the bath last week too. The wails and screaming were nothing ordinary. The end result: a badly bruised knee. (She's 30 incidentally. And a drama queen)

Oh my GOSH! That poor dearest baby girl! Dang those nurses! That is outrageous! I'd have killed him if he treated my baby that way. Forget courtesy! Hugs and kisses to my precious niece.
